Japanese Tickling Art

Drawing #19

Bound woman tickled on thigh with writing brush

This drawing is from an unusual style of Japanese S&M fiction, a blend of "manga" (comic book) and illustrated short story. Manga are normally presented like our comic books, a series of frames with most of the text consisting of dialog contained in balloons. Japanese short stories are also familiar looking, mostly text with a few illustrations. The story this picture comes from consists of a half dozen or so intricately drawn pictures, with a brief, descriptive story placed along the bottom of each page. The closest thing I can relate it to is a Life magazine style photo-essay, except of course that this is fiction.

It should not surprise you when I say that I cannot understand much of the text. I have said before that my Japanese is just not up to this level.

As far as I can make out the story follows a common convention for similar stories in that a woman has been sent to a temple to perform some type of duty, or servitude, and to her surprise it ends up being highly sexual in nature. The Japanese especially enjoy the plot device of a woman who is at first quite reluctant to participate, but who becomes a willing partner after the experience unlocks the hidden depths of her passion. One could discuss this issue endlessly as to its relationship to everyday life, but in the end it is hard to avoid the position that such non-consensual play is highly effective as fantasy fodder but never a good idea in practice.

The man who's back is to us seems to be an artist who's medium is dildos. Some guys paint, some do pottery, this guy carves dildos. His obsession is in creating a masterpiece, the mother of all dildos. The woman in the picture is his tester.

I like this series because it is so outrageous. The extreme character of the drawings does a great job of conveying visually the intense emotions that accompany sex.

The picture I have selected is the only one that depicts tickling. Too bad, but you takes what you can gets. Again the tickling is done with a tool, in this case a large "fude" (writing brush). Here it is not being applied to the woman's cunt, but this is understandable given that it was recently vacated by one of the artist's bloated creations. As is so often the case in Japanese tickling art, the act of tickling is not an end in itself, but rather a way to heighten a person's arousal and the intensity of their overall experience.

The candle stuck in her anus is a traditional S&M image, although it is more typically done with the woman's hips lifted higher so that the wax runs down the candlestick and onto her flesh. Curious that the publisher decided to add a bit of censorship at the point it enters her body, but this in itself can signify to a Japanese viewer that the picture is XXX rated.

Notice the strand of hair in the woman's mouth. This is another traditional element in Japanese erotic art. It signifies the woman's enjoyment, her total immersion into the depths of sexual gratification. This, and her expression, are intended to suggest that she is enjoying herself immensely.
